RAAF Oddity #96 - C-47 'Cowboy's Dogwash' A65-114

via Steve Mackenzie

Four images of a very interesting RAAF C-47, as it has an individual name, in the postwar period. Roger Lambert was able to supply an additional image of the airframe A65-114 taken later after the name was removed. He also supplied the following info on the accident excerpted from ADF Serials.

'A65-114 in Service with ARDU, crashed after double engine failure on takeoff. October 1986, Douglas C-47B A65-114 of the Aircraft Research and Development Unit RAAF crashed-landed following the failure of both engines immediately after taking off from RAAF Base Edinburgh. After the aircraft touched down back on the runway the left landing gear collapsed, damaging the fuselage.'

The Dakota never flew again and was sold to the South Australian Aviation Museum, Port Adelaide in 1992, where it remains on display.
